In 2004, Studio 42 launched Trials & Errors in partnership with Lawnfish, the production company of long-time Studio 42 collaborator Layna Fisher, as an ongoing series of one-night platforms for a variety of works-in-progress. Artists are free to present raw monologues, dance pieces, songs, poems, excerpts of scripts, and other original creations in front of a live audience, perhaps for the first time. Audiences in turn share their constructive feedback about the pieces on response cards which are then returned to the artists as they continue in their development process.

Trials & Errors has been presented regularly since 2004 at venues such as The American Place Theater, The Marquee at Marion’s and Jimmy’s No. 43. The evenings have been curated by a variety of Studio 42 associates and the works presented have featured countless burgeoning New York City artists.
