Featuring Bryan Brown, Bajir Cannon, Lamar Davenport, Layna Fisher, Sue Hyon and Victoria Libertore
Atelier is based on the paintings of Belgian-born and Paris-based artist Pierre Alechinsky. This experimental piece is a fusion of text and movement, created through an intensive eight-week collaboration process involving Wineman, the cast, and the design team. Alechinsky’s work is part of the permanent collection of the Pompidou in Paris, and has been given retrospectives at the Jeu de Paume in Paris and the Guggenheim in New York, yet somehow it eludes even the keenest American scholars. Thus, Atelier has a two-fold mission: to explore the translation and interpretation of Alechinsky’s static images to the stage, and to explore the collision of creator with creation.

“These scenes are BEAUTIFUL in and of themselves, conveying an EMOTIONAL EARNESTNESS… Layna Fisher, as a grimacing figure named Sourpuss, is CONSTANTLY ENTERTAINING!”

“The performers are PHYSICALLY ADEPT, and display STRONG VOCAL TALENT… Alechinsky would be proud!”
